Tramways are electric unless otherwise stated, and the dates refer to operating dates of electric traction. Note that many of these electric tramways started life prior to these dates with horse-drawn cars or, occasionally, were operated by steam or compressed air.
Standard gauge is mm. Narrow gauge is mm or mm where stated. The non-electrified steam tramways were mostly of a rural light railway nature, and many had become petrol or diesel worked 'goods only' by the time of their closure.
