CITC — A student with special needs was allegedly asked to explain various sexual acts, including "scissoring," during a health course in a California high school. The confrontation comes days after they told the Glendale City Council that Gonzalez was allegedly labeled a "bigot" by teachers for expressing opposition to the lesson and mistakenly using a friend's incorrect pronouns during class. The mother and daughter claim Gonzalez was instructed to discuss and provide definitions of the sexual acts despite previously asking that the student be excused from such topics.
However, Vivar claims that the instruction not only took place, but that her daughter is now facing accusations of being "anti-LGBTQ" for expressing discomfort. Vivar alleges that the district sent an email stating it had "investigated" the matter prior to questioning either herself or Gonzalez.
She accused the GUSD school board of "gaslighting" them and creating further division in the district through its handling of the issue. Gonzalez pressed GUSD for further "transparency" on its investigation before ending her remarks Tuesday. However, the board refrained from discussing the matter further, and told Gonzalez it would continue to "follow-up. GUSD says that it teaches "comprehensive sexual health education" to ninth-graders in accordance with state standards.
