Good evening and Happy New Year to you all. I hope you all managed to have an enjoyable, if doubtless too brief, festive holiday period. The idea for this series came to me via a playlist I used to have on my iPod. Years ago, when I still house-shared, there was one house that I was strictly prohibited from smoking in, so would have to go outside whenever I needed a hit of the foul weed.
At night, there was literally nothing to look at whilst out there, except to look upwards at the Cardiff sky, and so I started piecing together a playlist to accompany said activity, which seemed a much more sensible idea than giving up smoking. Some songs, basically. Here you go:. Late Night Stargazing Reboot. Friday Night Music Club Vol I mean, Coldplay? So, what have I included this week? Or the winking cheeks, for that matter.
I must apologise that Track 12 kind of runs into Track 13 in a rather messy way; I forgot there was final chord after the moments silence at the end Track 12, and I went off too quickly as I once said to my…no, never mind…. Well, actually, it can mean a lot of things: a Friday night takeaway, a couple of post-work pints, you get the gist. This is from , but ignore the ever-so-slightly egotostical grandeur of the mention of Orchestra in the title. I was very sad to hear of the passing of World Party main man, and ex-Waterboy, Karl Wallinger recently. This lot should have been huge. This is from their debut album from , WHB , a moniker under which they released further stuff, but, according to their wiki page, nothing since , which is disappointing, because this is, well, just ace.
The original can be found on their album The English Riviera. Classic kitsch from Sarah, Bob and Pete. From their Good Humor album. It always struck me as amusing that their follow-up to the massive was Unbelieveable was a song called I Believe. Look, I know that time and history may not look favourably upon the likes of Jesus Jones. But what I think is often over-looked is how, with their blend of guitars and samples, bands like this very much laid the groundwork for devoted guitar obsessed indie kids, as I was back in on their Liquidizer album to like dance music.
