It is complementary to CT Imaging and has revolutionized the practice of radiology. No radiation is used. Certain MRI scans require the use of intravenous contrast. To ensure patient safety, a detailed safety questionnaire must be completed to determine whether or not a patient can safely undergo an MRI.
It is a non-invasive exam performed in an open doughnut-shaped machine where radiation is used to produce data. Sophisticated computers create detailed images of the internal organs which would normally not be visible.
