Drivers in North Texas were cautioned to be extremely careful Friday after the region was blasted with wintry precipitation and below-freezing temperatures overnight, according to the National Weather Service. Caution should also be maintained throughout the day, as the area could see black ice in the evening and into Saturday morning.
Any remaining water on roadways could refreeze when overnight temperatures are forecast to drop into the teens, the weather service said. Multiple cities in Collin and Denton counties reported getting more than four inches of winter precipitation Thursday, and one last batch of light snow and freezing drizzle moved through the area early Friday.

Several counties β including Collin, Dallas, Denton, Kaufman and Tarrant β were under a winter storm advisory until midday Friday when conditions were expected to improve and the wintry precipitation forecast to move out of the region.
The areas were previously under a winter storm warning, but it was downgraded to an advisory to account for lingering precipitation this morning. Much of North Texas is now under a freezing fog advisory , which will last through 9 a. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. It also said this freezing fog will lead to a thin coating of ice Friday night, along with the black ice that is already developing.
