So are you ready to continue on with the Tammie Tour of France. Are you read for creepy mannequins? By the way, if you missed it and are in interested in photobombing ducks , be sure to check out our first stop along the drool-worthy shores of Lake Annecy. First up, yes, Dijon. As in the mustard. Why Dijon? I really have no idea. For some reason I primarily blame WikiTravel , I got hooked on the idea of visiting Dijon, and since it made an easy stop between Annecy and Paris, it worked perfectly into our itinerary.
Dijon turned out to be a great choice. And not just because we finally were able to sleep after five nights of being plagued with jet lag insomnia. The heart of Dijon is full of medieval, half-timbered buildings some dating to the s that are irresistibly photogenic. That owl became the symbol of the city and a good luck charm of sorts. Postcards, toys, earrings, andβ¦ cookiesβ¦. The Land of Cheese.. Also known as Les Halles.
Okay, so Dijon is gorgeous and we had amazing weather while we were there and our vacation rental was perfectly situated in the heart town, but one of the best parts of Dijon?? The museums are all free! The museum also houses the funerary monument of Duke Philip the Bold from the late s. I mean, just look at that face :. We nearly missed it, but on one of our wanderings, we stumbled upon the Rude Museum. And no shade on the Museum of Burgundian Life. Most of it was really interesting with all kinds of doodads and knickknacks and recreated shopfronts and things I like seeing.
Seriously, an entire, very dark, very so-long-there-may-be-no-escape room was full of creepy ass mannequins in period costume. A creepy corpse bride and groom!!! Creepy mannequins aside, Dijon really was a great stop. Every morning a street cleaning truck would trundle up and down the main thoroughfares to do the washing up. But vast sections of Dijon are paved in these large, smooth tiles see photo below. Hope you enjoyed the tour!!! I know!
A quadruple dose of a dragon stumbling his way through murder and mishaps for basically half the price? Hard to resist, right? Happy book shopping!!!
