Why the Buffs won: The Buffs dominated on the boards and played exceptional defense all night. Jade Masogayo: She finished with 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, putting together her first double-double of the season.
She also had three blocks. Kindyll Wetta: Posted six points β including two big buckets late in the game β five assists, five rebounds and two steals. Nyamer Diew: Gave the Buffs a lift on offense with eight points and also pulled down a season-high seven rebounds.
Whatever it was, the Buffs , Big 12 would like to see more of it, because Masogayo sparked an impressive effort against Arizona , as they won their fourth straight game. But I was very proud of how we responded, as far as just making some really big plays β big defensive rebounds, big plays at the end of the shot clock, and a lot of different people contributed in a big way tonight. CU played a second consecutive game without leading scorer Frida Formann, who is out with a stress fracture in her foot.
Other Buffs are dealing with nagging injuries, as well. Despite that, CU locked down on defense, holding Arizona to Masogayo, who got her double-double before halftime, and Lior Garzon 12 points helped the Buffs build a lead with four minutes left in the third quarter.
But, Arizona cranked up its pressure defense and went on a run over a span of 6 minutes, 13 seconds to pull within with to go in the fourth. Senior point guard Kindyll Wetta helped the Buffs break out of the funk, however. In addition to her stellar defense all night, Wetta helped the Buffs settle down offensively to outscore the Wildcats down the stretch. Not a big scorer, Wetta also hit two big shots late in the fourth, turning a five-point lead into a nine-point advantage.
