Let's assume a scenario in which the nascent Weimar Republic manages to hold on indefinitely and Germany manages to avoid the ascension of an extremist party to power. Assume that everything else is roughly similar to OTL. So with this in mind, how would Weimar Germany approach the issues of the Polish Corridor and Danzig?
I doubt that the status quo could continue forever, considering that even a democratic Germany is going to have serious revanchist sentiments influencing its foreign policy. The difference as I see it is that such a Germany is unlikely to act as obnoxiously as its OTL Nazi counterpart, and as such is unlikely to garner the same amount of ire that Hitler did among the Western Powers. Starting with Danzig, I see it being reincorporated into Germany as the likeliest scenario.
But the question is -- how? Would it take a war, or would Poland begrudgingly acquiesce to German annexation? The Corridor is where I'm less certain of how things would play out. A democratic Germany could make a strong moral case based on self-determination regarding Danzig -- but that obviously wouldn't fly with the Corridor and its predominately Polish population. Is a peaceful solution possible here? For example, Germany getting transportation rights to East Prussia?
Germany could easily get Danzig back democratically. Germans of the free city even wanted re-joining so in long term it would be impossible to avoid that. But Polish Corridor is going to be harder thing.
