Randy is our in-house composer and musical visionary. He also teaches private lessons in mbira, and incorporates mbira concepts into his group marimba classes.
Amy began studying African music in with master instructors both from Zimbabwe and the United States. Amy is adept at many African instruments, but especially loves marimba and hosho, and plays both with style and grace.
She also teaches private lessons in mbira, hosho, and singing, and incorporates these themes, along with Shona culture and language, into her group marimba classes. Amy reminds us that music is not only about notes and rhythms, but about relationships among people working together toward a common goal. He is a producer, educator, and content creator.
He loves working with young adult musicians and is grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the bands at Kutandara, as well as the adult and youth students. Jesse Larson, Instructor Jesse began playing marimba at the age of 11 at Kutandara in Boulder, Colorado, and 14 years later is still going strong. Throughout her teen years she continued to study Zimbabwean music with her primary teachers Randy McIntosh and Amy Stewart McIntosh, as well as many Zimbabwean instructors.
She also began teaching regularly at Kutandara. Since then, Jesse has taught throughout the US and in Indonesia, and though she is currently residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she still regularly travels to teach in Boulder and Alaska. Above anything else, Jesse loves performing and has been a band member of Kutandara, Ande, Polyphony, Tamba! Sharing this infectious music with both her students and audience is her joy. Daniel Lockley, Instructor Daniel Lockley has been playing marimba and mbira since he was 10 years old, studying with numerous teachers from around the world.
