Residents of St. Pierre are getting a sneak peek at the plans for a new community hub that promises to bring together sports, culture, arts, and social activities. The project, which is still in the fundraising stages, will transform the current arena into a versatile, all-inclusive space for the region. The new facility will be called Le Rendez-Vous , which Bubenzer explains is a name that reflects the area's rich French heritage.
One of the stand-out features in the design plans is a spot daycare center, which will help meet the growing demand in the area. The facility will include a new library , upgraded dressing rooms for the arena, a multi-purpose hall, a catering kitchen, and even an open-area in the hallway where local history can be showcased. Proulx envisions that space as a place where the community can explore the area's past, from horse-and-buggy days to present times. The current St Pierre arena is over 70 years old, and its floor is in bad shape, limiting its use to just the winter months.
Bubenzer noted that they are working with federal and provincial governments to secure funding, while also looking for private sector support. Bubenzer also pointed out that the new facility will be fully accessible, making it easy for everyone to use. As the project moves forward, the team is focusing on the immediate needs of the community, especially the arena and daycare. In the meantime, Proulx and the rest of St Pierre council are determined to keep the momentum going.
