We started this last day of our citytrip to Hagen and Wuppertal , with fresh croissants from a bakery around the corner of our hotel in Wuppertal. We saved the best for last, so to say: today, we would take a ride on the Schwebebahn, the famous suspension railway.
We could use the free public transport tickets we got at our hotel the other day. Did you know this railway has 20 stations in total? And that over 80,! It is a much used means of transport in Wuppertal, for inhabitants and tourists. Our plan was to get on the train at Wuppertal central station, the closest stop to our hotel. Then we would travel all the way to Vohwinkel, which is the western terminal of the Wuppertal Schwebebahn.
That part of the route has 10 stops. At Vohwinkel, we wanted to travel back all the way to the terminal in the northeast of the city: Wuppertal Oberbarmen BF. The first part of our journey was perfect.
We really enjoyed the views of the city, from 9 to 12 meters above ground. We waited 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutesβ¦no Schwebebahn!
I suspected something was wrong. We wondered what to do: just wait at the terminal for the next train? Or start walking back to the city center? Later in the afternoon, we had a train to catch, back to The Netherlands.
