I work with an older diabetic coworker at a fast food place. Long story short, this results in a diabetic reaction, and she has to get sent home. Just to get out of sweeping. It got so bad we had to call an ambulance. I manage a small weld shop. This one guy we hired stops showing up. After like three days, he walks in the door.
Here, I have pictures, look! He took a bunch of selfies over the few days he was lost at sea, including one where he was being rescued by the Coast Guard! Our new night manager comes over and asks me to show him how to use them, as well. After that, he goes back to the office. We all knew what he was doing, mostly because he all but admitted it. And because we all knew, someone eventually said something, and then the company tried to make him take a drug test, so he just quit, instead.
This useless kid we hired finally stops showing up. A few weeks go by, and the bosses just terminate his employment. I go back to the lunchroom one day, and [Useless Kid] is sitting there. I confirm with all the managers that he was fired and is not working in another part of the store. He shows up in the lunchroom again a few weeks later. This is for employees only. Wanna stay longer and have the police arrest you for trespassing?
We never saw him again, so I hope he told his mom what happened. Somehow, I doubt it. At the end of many deployments on an aircraft carrier, they do a thing called a tiger cruise, where family members of the crew can come onto the ship for the last few days of the deployment before it pulls back into homeport. They held a tiger cruise at the end of one deployment I was on; family members rode the ship from Pearl Harbor to San Diego and got to live on board, eat at the galley, watch an air show at sea, and have a steel beach picnic.
It honestly sounds pretty fun, but people also told me it is a nightmare dealing with civilians on board. There were hundreds of people coming on board, so they needed an equivalent number of people to volunteer to leave the ship and fly back to California from Hawaii. There was no shortage of volunteers, and I was one of them.
