A phony Concord address is being used nationally to scam information, identity, and money from people who are advertising items for sale on Craigslist. The scam goes something like this: A person with something to sell puts an ad on Craigslist. The person who has the item listed receives a phone call or text message from a area code number from a person, often a woman, who says that they are willing to buy the item right at that moment, sight unseen.
The alleged scammer then requests a PayPal account information via email. In some cases, after the information is requested and given, a man will contact the person with the item requesting a user or shipping fee as part of the transaction. There is no home at the address however. Homes on Broadway run from up to and then start again at In between those addresses is Rollins Park. The woman said she looked into the person contacting her and found out that the address she had given was a public park.
Some people who have written about the scam said they were selling cars and furniture online. Others who have been scammed have been sharing their information with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in an effort to crackdown on the scamming. He warned that residents should always be careful when sharing information with strangers and should protect their online identity.
Rachel Alanna and Jessica Davis are both names used by the alleged scammers. Mike Sears is one name used by the person requesting the user fee. That number is based out of New York, according to an online search. Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox.
