Regular readers of this blog will know that I am a big fan of the Thomson Spirit, and im not alone. Originally intended to complete her charter from Celesytal Cruises this November, the charter has been extended through to the end of October next year.
Her legion of fans is of course delighted and she will no doubt earn Thomson a pretty penny as demand for cruise holidays is booming. She is currently sailing adult only cruises out of Dubrovnik, a task that will be undertaken by the Thomson Celebration in Being adults only precluded me from sailing on the Spirit this year because I have a 13 year old son, so I had to look at alternatives and one cruise stood out as being an option and it was an unusual one.
It was strategically timed to coincide with the English summer bank holiday, always handy when calculating those valuable work annual leave days as it meant people who general work a standard Monday to Friday week would only need to take the Friday and Tuesday off work. I booked the cruise back in May having negotiated a leave of absence for myself and my son from my wife and daughter who decided a trip up the east coast of Scotland was not for them.
Like all Thomson cruises it really is a game of pot luck when booking a cruise because the company operate a fluid pricing policy. Book at a weekend, you pay more, book when demand is high you pay more. Its familiar territory for me around 2.
It was however my first cruise from the port so it was a little bit different to taking the ferry. Check in time was from until , parking was at the quayside so it should have been straight forwards.
