It is a building of the 11th century probably , very simple, dedicated to the patron saint of bargemen which can be explained by the important role of the Marne as a waterway. The eastern extension choir and south side of three bays in radiant Gothic style is attributed to Nicolas, abbot from to Numerous archaeological excavations were carried out around the church, bringing to light Merovingian sarcophagi and burials possibly dating back to the 15th century.
The neo-Gothic stained glass windows of the chevet date from the three canopies depict the life of Christ. The stained glass of the northern chapel is dedicated to the Virgin and that of the southern chapel to Saint Genevieve. The stupa was built in to commemorate the soliders from Laos and Cambodia who died defending France in the First World War. The Merovingian chapel built by Dagobert on the site of the present church was destroyed in The church of Saint Saturnin was built and enlarged from the 11th to the 20th century.
Classified as a historical monument in , the 11th and 12th century bell tower has been restored several times. In , in order to erase any vestige of religion, the horizontal arms of the cross which surmounted the bell-tower were sawn off: it is this strange metallic decoration that can be seen on the lawn in front of the church.
With its Beheaded by lightning in August , its spire was only rebuilt identically after the war. The present porch was bought by Mrs Smith-Champion from the city of Paris and offered in after the church was enlarged. It probably comes from a Parisian convent.
