An amazing organization called the Soi Foundation found me living on the streets alone. I was very hungry and sick, but luckily the kind people brought me under their care so that I could have a second chance at life.
After about a year, I was feeling well enough to start the journey of finding my new home. I share a common background with my mom. Some years ago her family found themselves in desperate circumstances in a Thai refugee camp, before they were sponsored to come to Canada. We share a common story, and it feels like we were meant to share this chapter of life together. When I met my new family for the first time at my foster home, I could tell they were grieving.
I heard that they had just lost their dog. I wanted her to know that if she was ready, I was ready to make my way into her heart. I love going for walks with my family, and just taking in lazy days on my spot on the couch. She taught her family that life is short, and you should make the most out of every day. Spend time with the people and the dogs that you love and who love you right back. Soak in every opportunity to dip your paws in the water and most importantly, eat the waffles.
More on that to come. Her family was told that this disease had low chances of survival amongst the only 11 reported cases. Word on the street is that the Saturday waffles gave her a whole new lease on life and she lived an amazingly full and happy 20 months following her diagnosis.
She learned to embrace life to the fullest. With her wheelchair, she was determined to do anything that she set her mind to. Like racing down the street to play with her besties, chasing birds in the yard and racing her sisters to get the tennis ball first.
