Lyla watched the car drive past. A few minutes later, it was heading back her way, sending fear coursing through her. But rather than facing her trafficker, she encountered a local couple. She remembers coming into gas stations on rare occasions during her captivity, only to be ignored by anyone she encountered.
The couple called Steve and Tressa Dunlap, founders of On Time Ministry , a land organization that cares for trafficking victims, former prostitutes and women at risk of exploitation. Operating homes in Mexico and land, the group also arranges services for those women, such as medical treatment and counseling.
The organization took Lyla in, giving her safety and the support to recover. To meet that demand, the Dunlaps are in the process of opening another home in a nearby town. International, which works on human trafficking initiatives around the country. Being in a place of recovery has allowed another passion to develop: to make a difference by assisting victims of human trafficking and exploitation.
She currently serves that mission by helping out the staff of On Time Ministry.
