It is the region where many celebrate their holidays. Both towns are located on the beach and are fairly fused together which is why people often refer to them as on the same beach. The towns are located in a bay which give them a lovely climate. There is an old city center with many sights, old buildings, characteristic houses, picturesque shopping streets with boutiques and terraces, music events and markets.
You can walk on the past the shops and terraces overlooking the boats. It was located on the trade route between Italy and Spain and was named Forum Julii, which means "market of Julius".
A trading port was also built which grew into one of the largest in the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the city was ransacked several times.
After the 10 th century there was little left of the city and the port. The tourists come to visit remains dating back to the Roman Empire such as the Arena, the Aqueduct , the amphitheatre and the archaeological museum. It is located just outside the old city center.
You can still see the original walls on the outside and the stands on the inside. Concerts are held during the summer. Walk through the narrow streets with colored houses and atmospheric squares. The great basilica Notre-Dame de la Victoire has a prominent position in St. Raphael as it rises above many of the neighboring buildings.
