Your health and well-being are our top priorities. Welcome to a community where you can prioritize your wellness journey with confidence and support. All full-time Raleigh regular students that have cleared financially and medically are offered unlimited visits to the Student Health Center. All students must provide a valid Shaw University identification card on each visit.
To use this service, visit bearscare. Download Student Health Information Form. Students residing on campus that become ill must report to the Health Center in person, unless they are too ill to get out of bed. Under no circumstances should a student remain in their room ill without notifying someone.
No class excuses will be issued for unreported illnesses. An emergency is a life threatening condition that calls for immediate action. Examples: Inability to breathe, profuse bleeding, unconsciousness, chest pain accompanied with nausea and profuse sweating. If admitted to the hospital, report to the health center after discharge with all related paperwork. Within 48 β 72 hours. If not admitted, report to the health center on the following workday or within 48 hours.
Any medical excuses more than 30 days, excuses denied. Students who become too ill to attend class must report the illness to the nurse by telephone immediately, before or during the missed class. The statement should include the date first seen by the doctor, date of release, the diagnosis, and any remaining physical limitations. This information is required at the time of enrollment at Shaw University and should be updated while attending the university.
