When you first step in β assuming you have a reservation β it looks like a rather small bakery. Not cheap, at about 50 euros for weekend brunch, but value for money if you have a big enough appetite. After relaxing on a bench for a while I suddenly realized that I had only half an hour to get to an afternoon event, so I peeled off and left Bruce and Bill to more thoroughly explore that lovely park.
I had initially been under the impression that the match would be held up in Saint Denis , which can be a sketchy area, especially at night, but I was relieved to learn that it was at the Parc des Princes , in a pleasant and relatively safe southwest suburb. This has been a stressful period for PSG since their megastar, Messi, is leaving the club, but they won handily anyway.
Since it was their first tourist visit to Paris of course we headed straight for the Mona Lisa. We then went looking for half a dozen other art works that Bill wanted to see, and found almost all. Here are pics of some of my own favorite items. We had lunch at the Angelina branch at the Louvre. It was ok but the service was spotty. The sun came out on Sunday afternoon so I suggested a visit to the ginguette Rosa Bonheur in the parc des Buttes β Chaumont.
It was delightful to see all the local folks enjoying their beautiful park. Even though we got to Rosa Bonheur closer to 5 pm than my target of 4 there was hardly any line so we quickly got seats at a picnic table on the terrace. I was disappointed to find both the Temple de Sibylle and the suspension bridge closed.
A placard explained that the gypsum rock underlying these features was disintegrating so they had become unsafe. A project is contemplated to restore access over the next several years. We were too late to get tickets to a performance so we settled for the self guided tour. Scaffolding covered the front, but the interior is gorgeous. We had lunch at an old favorite of mine, Bouillon Chartier.
