By Mcnajay March 22, in Introduce Yourself. Hi there. I just purchased my 1st new to me CDI brabus with 43k km. I'm a VW tech here in Ottawa Canada and have been specializing in diesel for about 8 years. A little reaserch shows possibly only 4 self tops like mine? Does anybody have any information on this? Welcome to the club! I hate to burst your bubble but I doubt if its a true Brabus.
It looks like a lot of Brabus parts were put on your smart, like the exhaust shield and the front spoiler. The interiors were redone in leather and Alcantara, dash, seats, door panels. The seats have a red red cars or white white car diamond patterned stitching on these special panels. In the photo, the coupe was on winter wheels, and the red cabriolet on the right has had its wheels replaced by crossblade wheels.
Suspension and engine were unaltered. Most of them were fully loaded with all options. Three are cabriolets and the one coupe has a glass roof, not sunroof. This photo is from the only time they were all together, here in BC. All four still exist - two in BC, one in Alberta and one in Ontario. I own the white one and it's the only of these 4 cars with a diesel BRABUS dual exhaust with oxydation catalyst, which a guy named Ian gave to me in and has been on the car since There was another batch of diesel BRABUS cars, but these were not Tailor Made at Bottrop, but were fully assembled on the regular production line, all being "jack black" on black coupes with fixed glass roofs, with light blue-grey leather seats, which VERY oddly were not heated.
Of the original 50, 4 were written off and three of those rebuilt and are still on the road. Not to say they're not nice cars, but they're unofficial. Some of them are very nice indeed. If you let me know the last 6 digits of the VIN, I'll be able to tell you something of the silver car's history. Other features of the official cars were the BRABUS grille, which differs from the one on your silver car, but also the side skirts, spoiler and perforated SS rear panel, all of which your car has.
Which wheels is your car running on? A hot tip for these cars is to get a good quality remap, which Glenn smart can do in London, and also to have factory cruise control activated. The latter really adds immeasurably to the comfort on longer drives. Since you're a VW tech, the following bits of advice should be particularly easy: wire in external relays for both headlight circuits as well as the electric fuel lift pump, because the SAM unit is not up to the task of powering these consumers sustainably, without causing major heat damage internally and to the connectors.
