A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect starting at noon on Wednesday because of freezing rain during the afternoon and evening. Jarod Anderson appeared visibly shocked in court Tuesday as recorded phone conversations were played by the State as evidence. In one call, he told his wife she should have taken his phone before questioning because it contained evidence. In the courtroom, the jury watched a video of an investigator interviewing Anderson in July The video was recorded just over a month after the period during which a teenager claims she was sex trafficked.
Anderson told the investigator that his alleged accomplice, Tana Torres , had messaged him on Facebook saying the teen was homeless and in need, and he was trying to help them. The investigator said at the time the teen told a different story, that they were a runaway and appeared scared. However, phone records presented in court revealed several conversations between Anderson and 44 potential clients, arranging meeting times for sex acts and payments, also including explicit photos of the teen and Torres.
Anderson's phone data also connected him to ads on a website encouraging payments for sexual encounters. The interview later showed Anderson telling the investigator to "shut up," swearing at him, and calling the alleged victim a liar. Anderson claimed he believed the girl was around 20 or 21 years old based on an ID that he said Torres checked, but she was actually Anderson's attorneys confirmed to the judge he will testify in his own trial.
Court will resume Wednesday morning, with closing arguments and jury deliberations potentially occurring later in the day.
