Any other teachers here, what's going on? Re-opening of schools? I decided to stick things out, in part not knowing just how long the schools would be closed and also assuming that once things reopened there would be more work than ever.
I assumed a lot of teachers would have just gone back to their home countries or found work elsewhere. I am seeing very few advertisements, and my government job is apparently unfunded at the moment. Have most of the centers gone out of business, have a lot of parents stopped sending their kids, anyone know what the government is up to as far as whether they will continue funding the Public Schools English Education Programs?
Also, if anyone knows what the official school year is, that would be good to know, as it wouldn't help me much if the public schools start their programs back up towards the end of May and then end in June or early July. If you have any info at all, that would be helpful. Actually the government does not fund the native English teachers in public schools, the parents do.
I know of this because a friend had two stepdaughters in the middle school where he taught. He and I calculated that the extra fees collected for students whose parents wanted them in the program were at least triple what the foreign teachers were being paid. My guess is that the language centers got about half of the difference and the rest was divvied up by principals and other officials. That said, there may be some justifiable caution among parents about coughing up extra funds at this time.
Thanks I didn't know that, I thought the funds came from up high. It seems that all students in a given class say class receive lessons though. I was aware of the fact that the center receives a lot more than the , teachers receive.
