I'm Anna in Ottawa. Growing up piano was my main instrument. I took piano lessons from an older teacher. It was strictly classical, lots of fingering exercises and lots of sight reading. At the same time, I played piano and guitar at home with my dad. I'd accompany myself while singing - so for pop-music I tend to play mostly chords and sing the melody.
Accordion is a newer instrument for me, and I didn't start playing until I was an adult. I inherited an accordion. And then a short while later I was gifted another accordion, so I thought I'd better learn how to play. I have worked with two different accordion teachers locally. I still see one of them regularly. Accordion is really fun and fits really well with my musical background. Much more portable than the piano, and a whole orchestra in a box, if you will.
At the moment I have 3 accordions - all bass - but different sizes heights. For the past few years, I've been on a bit of a jazz-kick, but really I like almost all kinds of music. Variety is always fun. I also like to play with styles, and change things up. Iron Maiden on the accordion? All About That Bass as a waltz?
Elton John on the Ukulele? For sure. Rearranging songs in new and perhaps unexpected styles is a lot of fun. I found Ronen on youtube a while back and have been enjoying the livestreams. The thing that I particularly like with Ronen's style is the playfulness and the joy that's apparent when he is playing.
