A warrant has been signed for the arrest of Taushauna Shanae Burrel, who turned herself in around a. Monday, Aug. The incident allegedly occurred on July Burrel has been the head coach of the Big Reds girls basketball team since On Tuesday, Aug. However, Guy had not yet spoken to Burrel about the allegations as of Tuesday because he was out of town, Felske said.
It isn't clear whether Burrel faces any sort of disciplinary action with her coaching position in connection to the charge. Burrel, contacted by phone Monday afternoon, said she didn't wish to immediately comment on the situation. Burrel has been charged with a day misdemeanor for allegedly leaving a 7-month-old infant in a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Party America, South Harvey St.
Maat said Burrel allegedly left the child "unattended in the car in the parking lot" for approximately 10 minutes. The child was not injured, but there was enough "concern" over the incident to justify charges, Maat said. Child Protective Services officials were notified as well, Maat said.
Norton Shores Police Department officials handled the police complaint. There are two concerns: The child was unattended in a public place Burrel has no past criminal record, Maat said.
She has been charged with one count of leaving a child in an unattended vehicle, which is a misdemeanor punishable up to 93 days in the Muskegon County Jail.
