All of the students have existing experience working with young children in their own communities and towns. The links established last semester with local Suva kindergartens and schools continues to develop this semester providing practicum attachments for all students as part of the course. Students are able to implement directly what is being discussed in class, immediately putting theory in to practice, with an experiential learning focus.
Teachers shared their feedback on last semester's programs and commended the APTC on their good work. The continued support of the local Suva schools and kindergartens is very important and they play a valuable role in supporting the APTC Children's Services students. During the semester students will visit other kindergartens and schools and complete two blocks in different centres. This will increase their exposure to early childhood settings in Fiji. The APTC aims to provide students with opportunities to experience a variety of programs, and early childhood education practice.
This experience will help them develop their own teaching in areas such as program design, implementing developmentally appropriate practice and sustainable practices. Previous story. Next story.
