During this workshop, you will create a book dummy of a new photographic story developed in Marseille. You will be asked to deeply immerse yourself in your photographic approach and practice while developing a photographic response under time constraints. With the support of your mentors and your peers, you will sharpen your vision and strengthen your narrative skills, allowing you to build a cohesive story that resonates with your personal perspective.
By the end of the workshop, you will have a compelling book dummy that reflects your artistic growth and serves as a foundation for future projects and a potential tool for publishing. But in truth, it went far beyond my expectations.
Over the three weeks, you will not only create a new photographic story but also gain insights from professionals working in the industry.
Each week, different experts such as photo editors, publishers, local artists and Magnum photographers will engage in discussions with you on specific topics, offering fresh perspectives on the profession.
Focusing on developing a personal project and an authentic voice, you will explore and define your individual approach to documentary photography, considering all elements of successful project development: from research to access and shooting, editing and sequencing, and the creation of a zine. We aim to build an atmosphere that resembles an artist residency: a safe space for creativity and experimentation, and personal development. Marseille will become your home for three weeks and together with your peers, you will be encouraged to critically engage with your photographic practice.
